- Place load cell base (8" square) in the bottom of the tester. Notice the dowel pin alignment holes.
- Connect the digital display yellow cable to the load cell base. Turn the display on and allow it to warm up for about 5 minutes or so.
- Attach the U-shaped aluminum dial indicator bracket to the lower slider on the right hand side of the frame. Notice that the dial indicator works off the load cell base.
- Install the spring into the tester. Remove the 2 large black handle pins and lower the upper spring seat until it rests on the top of the spring. Reinstall the 2 pins until fully seated. (It may be necessary to move the upper seat up slightly until the first available set of holes line up.
- Note: The top spring cup has one side for square end springs (coil over) and the other side for pigtail springs. Make sure the pigtail is up against the step.
- Close the valve at the base of the jack (black t-handle) and pump until the spring touches on both ends.
- Slide the aluminum dial indicator bracket down until the dial indicator just touches the load cell base. Rotate the outer dial so the pointer reads zero.
- Preload the spring by compressing 1". This is very important and should be done accurately. You may alternatively use .5" (1/2") depending on the spring quality as long as you always use the same amount.
- Push the ZERO button on the digital readout to zero the display.
- Again slide the aluminum dial indicator bracket down until the dial indicator just touches the load cell base. Rotate the outer dial so the pointer reads zero.
- Using the dial indicator to measure, compress the spring exactly 1" (10 revs of the large pointer or 2 revs on the small pointer).
- At this point the digital display will show the spring rate (in lbs./in. of compression). Open the valve at the base to release the spring.
- NOTICE: Disregard special function mode on digital readout as that is used for our Winston Cup Gas Weighing System.
DANGER: Compressed coil springs are dangerous. If one comes out of the tester it can cause severe injury or death.
- NEVER compress a spring beyond the capacity of the tester.
- NEVER compress a spring that bows to one side or does not compress straight.
- NEVER compress a spring that is not properly seated completely within both spring seats.
