SFI Recertification on ESS Fire Systems, I/O Port

Your ESS SFI-certified fire system needs to be recertified every 2 years per the SFI regulations. I/O Port, as a representative of ESS, is allowed to certify and recertify ESS fire systems. Every recertification is a little different depending on the condition of the bottle received.

Our recertification process starts by inspecting the bottle for damage and cleaning up what we can. If the bottle is damaged or greater than 6 years old, it will need to be replaced. O-rings can become old and damaged. The liquid foam inside the container will be replaced. If the system has been deployed, the CO2 cartridge and burst disc need to be replaced.
The best way to have your system recertified is to bring the system to I/O Port at our Lafayette, CA address. As the CO2 cartridge is a pressurized container and considered hazardous materials, most people cannot ship it legally. If you cannot physically bring the system in, the best way to ship the cylinder is to first open it and dump the contents. Then remove the CO2 cartridge and send the cylinder back to us. We will then clean, inspect, refill, seal and recertify the system with a new CO2 cartridge. We will then send it back to you ready to install.

If you pay with a credit card (Not PayPal!), then we can easily add these parts onto your credit card. If you pay by PayPal, we will need to send you a PayPal money request and this will delay your order.

Standard recertification includes:

• Clean and inspect cylinder
• Fill cylinder with new foam liquid
• Seal cylinder head with tamper tape
• Affix a new expiration date
• Install hairpin clip to avoid accidental discharge

• Certify cylinder for the first time

Note: Do not allow the filled cylinder to freeze during transport, use or storage. I/O Port will not ship an SFI-certified system when weather conditions show freezing conditions during transport.
